my nephew’s turkey recipe.
this is top notch people. he is awesome and in kindergarden. as my sister said, you’re welcome.
Get a size 100 turkey. Put 3 potatoes in the oven. Warm up 5 chocolate muffins. Get some blueberry cake and warm it up. Decorate the turkey with eyes, mouth and a beak made out of icing. Make legs for the turkey out of icing. Make the turkey look like a really cool turkey with a badge on it and a star. Cook the turkey in the oven and turn it on 100 %. Cook it for three minutes. Eat the turkey with chocolate cake.

half marathon completed! my goal was 2.5 hours and i finished in 2:38! not bad. i’m pretty pleased with that. i can walk today, which is a good thing. yesterday, not so much. mile 11 was really hard, but i got through it. that may be because i trained up to 12 miles, and my body was not expecting two more. anyway, pictures will be added to this at some point. i’m looking for my next race soon, to keep motivated!

sorry i’ve been absent on here. will return soon. getting closer to my first half marathon! it’s sunday. kinda nervous, but excited. washed the ipod the other day. i am a winner. but i got to hand it to mac, the thing still works. phillip’s truck died last week. everything that could go out on it, did. so we are jeep owners once again. deer #2 for the season has been harvested. weird being a hunter’s wife. something else i never thought i’d be. my mountain parents have left. going into withdrawal and so are my girls. we will survive. thinking about learning to sew and sew well. that’s about all. promise i will post birthday pictures as soon as i have them. this mama forgot her camera for going to nashville. oops! waiting on mimi and granddad to share the love.

fall is here in the mountains and it is beautiful. we’ve been watching football of course, and i’ve been in the kitchen (surprised?). i was unloading the dishwasher yesterday and pulled out five silicone spatulas. you know it’s been a busy day in the kitchen when there’s five in there! so i thought i would share some of what we’ve been making lately. during football season we get the kids ready for bed and fed before we eat because we eat like men in bars during football season. phillip has started making potato skins and they are amazing. he just bakes the potatoes in the oven and halves them when they are done. then he scoops out the centers (that i use later) and loads them with fresh cooked bacon and cheese. then he sticks them back in the oven long enough to melt the cheese. i found a basic recipe and tweaked it. i cut down the flour to one cup and i add in a tablespoon of tony chachere seasoning (the best!) and then use pickle juice to thin the mixture. now on to the sweet…… i make salted caramel sauce all of the time since apples are in season. i must say that this is an addiction. so good! i use the same recipe but my method is different, it takes some practice but it is easy to make. questions? just ask. i made garlic knots the other day and they were amazing. of course i tweaked this one too. i used a refrigerated thin crust dough and didn’t use the fresh herbs. i used dried parsley and put the entire mixture on the dough. when they were all baked, i used the butter in the pan to brush the tops and skipped the melting in the saucepan part. i also made banoffee mess when mimi and granddad were here and for a neighborhood meeting the other night. although, i might tweak this one too since i saw nigella make toffee yesterday. then i made malted milk chocolate chip cookies to be a dessert after the deer roast we had. i better be careful, my cooking show addiction is showing.
sunday i spent the afternoon with beth and matthew at the kilby homeplace. we rode 4 wheelers and took pictures of leaves and picked apples that we hiked to. fun day. my girls were taking naps so i got to go alone! here are some pictures from sunday and to show you how gorgeous the leaves are here. enjoy!
happy fall! if you go back a couple of posts to how? i posted a picture of phillip’s deer.

so i just went downstairs to do some laundry and learned that i washed a diaper. a disposable one. how in the world does that happen? it was a first, and very strange. but i am happy to report that it did not explode. ava got molar #2 yesterday, and adeline got a cold. on saturday i ran a brutal 5k and beat my last time by over 2 minutes. very exciting. i should probably be doing 10k races, but they’re hard to find around here. saturday was also opening season for bow hunting. phillip’s goal this year was to kill a deer with a bow. well, he did. he got a 5 point buck on opening day with a bow. he is currently making jerky and grilling steaks. that’s all i got for now except for…. roll tide! they are looking good! so happy that football season is back! we also got a new dog. a while back.
phillip and his buck.
this is belle, she’s sweet.

unnerved.
so, i promise i haven’t abandoned this place. summer is winding down and so are our activities. i will return. i registered for my first half marathon yesterday and unnerved is the exact word for how i felt. i actually sat there staring at the screen trying to hit the register button. it’s done. got an email today from the race organizer that started out, “only 67 days left”. holy cow! there’s no turning back now. this is what i’ve been training for. wilmington here i come!
in other news, ava only has 4 teeth. so much for them popping in all at once. but it’s weird, she has both bottom teeth, one top tooth, and A MOLAR. strange child. adeline is still adeline. she is fun and sweet and wild. here are some pictures from the summer. happy september!
